Concours restored Holden HR Ute, running a genuine 145 bhp 3 Litre 186S motor, 3 speed manual column shift gearbox and restored using many thousands of dollars of rare NOS parts. The result - an unique Show WInning HR Holden Ute. For sale from our Sydney Showroom.

The HR Holden. A GMH icon and certainly an Aussie automotive success story. Dealers saw 252,352 HRs leave their showrooms in the 21 months it was on the market. Second only to the EH in sales and by comparison, the “Mustang Bred” XR Falcon achieved only 90,000 sales in 19 months.

With its high ground clearance, the HR was capable of going anywhere! Only 21st century SUVs can carefully negotiate tracks that the HR handled with ease. This was a rugged boxy design that ticked the box for Australian buyers. It was also one of the first cars in the world to be fitted with front seat belts as standard. These came as part of a model upgrade in September 1966 that also included windscreen washers, padded sun visors, shatter proof interior rear vision mirror, safety glass, exterior driver’s side mirror, reversing lights and rear seat belt mounting points.

Impossible to replace, the current owner of this very unique Holden HR spent 15 years sourcing NOS parts and restoring this no expense spared project and labour of love. The HR Ute is running a genuine and more powerful 145bhp 186S engine mated to the trusty 3 speed column manual shift gearbox. The HR was rotisserie restored with all body work repaired in metal and the Grecian White paint applied to perfection.

All mechanicals were rebuilt including the 186S motor, 3 speed manual gearbox and 3.55 differential. The HR is also fitted with factory disk brakes and all mechanical parts are part numbers matching. The 186S engine has been fully rebuilt and balanced, with a mild port, stainless valves, mild camshaft, steel crank, balanced, cast iron headers and a stainless 2" exhaust. The HR has covered approximately 5,000km since the rebuild. It is certainly hard not to admire the effort that has gone into sourcing the correct GMH hardware that make this engine bay concours accurate and a delight to behold. Even the correct factory decals, part numbers and markings are in their place.

Many genuine Nasco accessories have been sourced and fitted including rear venetian, heater, glovebox shelf, door courtesy lights, door scuff protection plates, sports gauge, AM radio, steering wheel lock, sports rope rails, spats and twin horns.

The interior has been fully retrimmed in the factory Mephisto Red trim with new seat trims, door cards, hood lining, rubber floor coverings, recalibrated and restored gauges, restored heater system, glass and working AM radio. There is also a period correct after market slip on head rest installed for the driver.

The Holden Ute tray has been restored to perfection with the timber floor in unmarked brand new condition. And similarly, the underside from the genuine K frame back is restored to concours condition.

The HR is riding on 13" steel rims with concours dress rims and caps with as new 185/70x13 Marshal White Wall tyres.
