The mighty HT Monaro GTS 350. Winner of the 1969 Bathurst 500 on debut and the first Holden and first Australian-made car to win the Australian Touring Car Championship. Under the expert guidance of HDT's Harry Firth, Colin Bond and Tony Roberts triumphed over the Phase 1 GTHO Falcon of Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland with a goaty-bearded, 20-something year old Peter Brock and co driver Des West coming in third. And in the hands of Stormin’ Norm Beechey, the big yellow HT GTS joined the immortals of Australian motor sport by winning the 1970 ATCC, the first Aussie car and the first Holden to do so.
The rules of the Bathurst Hardie-Ferodo 500 required that "production vehicles compete in showroom condition" with no modifications. A total of 200 such cars had to be built and sold to the public in order to qualify to race. The street cars had to feature all modifications that the manufacturer was shoe horning into their race cars. So in reality, these special cars were simply street legal race cars. Thus the informal name given to these rare cars - Bathurst Monaros.
For sale is one such Homologation special. A spectacular 1969 Bathurst Race Homologation GTS Monaro in Sebring Orange with Black trim combo, Body No. 81 was built at the Sydney Pagewood GMH plant. The genuine 10 Bolt Chevy type LSD differential with 3.08 gears is there as are the radius rods. The Bathurst Monaro also features the raucous quad tip exhaust.
The car has been recently treated to a shifter rebuild, gauges and fuel sender recalibration, chemical clean and relining of fuel tank, suspension ball joints and rebuild to original shock absorbers, cooling system and water pump rebuilt and a full service.
