1996 HSV VS GTSR Commodore - Build No 81/85
HSV literally rocked the Australian performance car scene in 1996 with the release of the XU-3 yellow VS GTS-R. Marketed as the closest HSV road car you could get to its race winning HRT Australian Touring Car championship cars, only 85 GTS-Rs were built. 75 for the Australian market and 10 for New Zealand. For sale is Build No. 81, a New Zealand delivered HSV and now for sale from Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand.
This super limited edition flagship HSV was only available in XU-3 Yellah with Carbon fibre inserts and the huge HRT inspired carbon fibre rear wing. Running gear was the HSV and Ron Harrop designed stroker L98 engine, with a bore of 101.6mm and stroke of 88.4, measuring 5737cc. Power was increased from the 185kW and 400Nm of torque for the five-litre, to the stroker 5.7 litres 215kW and 475Nm of torque at the same revs. That combined with the Tremec T56 six-speed transmission and “Hydratrak” limited slip differential (LSD) package made for a car with the show and lots of go.
Ten GTS-Rs (Bld No. 76 to 85) were built by HSV and sent to HSV dealerships in New Zealand. Build No. 81 has spent all of its driving life in the North Island of New Zealand. This very special HSV has covered a genuine documented 60,447 Kilometres and is presented for sale in immaculate unmolested and totally original condition with the numbered HSV Compendium and Authenticity Certificate. The GTS-R was sold to the original owner on the 26th September, 1996 and then to the second owner on the 22nd, February 2000 with 29,266 Klms on the clock. The GTS-R was sold to the third owner on the 4th July, 2001 with 30,257 Klms on the clock. This owner enjoyed HSV GTS-R #81 for 13 years. The GTS-R was purchased by the current owner on the 16th May, 2016 with 58,744 Klms on the clock and the car is supplied with a New Zealand ownership history report.
Externally, the GTS-R features all the original factory Yellah paint with nil marks, a few minor stone chips and no bumps or bruises. All the carbon fibre is in excellent condition with no pealing. The interior features the matching GTS-R cloth trim in exceptional condition with no wear to the seat bolsters, original yellow threaded steering wheel and gear knob, factory power steering, power windows, air-conditioning, 10 stacker Sony CD player and powered mirrors. The dash features the HSV build plaque noting the car is build number 81 and the centre armrest still features the original build date sticker for March, 1996. All carpets, roof lining, door cards and parcel shelf are in original and tidy condition.
Mechanically, the GTS-R has been maintained with regular servicing using recommended oils and performs as a stroker HSV should. The car has been fitted with an engine strut brace but otherwise is factory original.
The GTS-R is riding on the factory alloy rims with Bridgestone Potenza 235/45R17 tyres. The original spare wheel is shod in a Bridgestone Expedia 205/55 ZR16 with factory tools.
The GTS-R is a stand out collector car and a must for any red blooded Aussie or New Zealand car enthusiast. Rare and certainly a gold plated muscle car investment!

Vehicles offered for sale through AMCS are the responsibility of the Owner / Seller. AMCS acts as the Seller's agent and relies fully on the information provided by the Seller of the vehicle in the advertising and sale of each vehicle. AMCS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or veracity of the information provided by the Seller.
When a Buyer wishes to speak to the owner or inspect a vehicle listed for sale on the AMCS web site, AMCS will request a copy of the potential buyers driver's license or a business card along with an email address and phone number. This is provided to the seller as confirmation of the legitimacy of the buyer and the seller is then asked to contact the potential buyer to discuss the car and set up an inspection if required.
The Buyer must make his own enquiries and inspections regarding the condition, authenticity and veracity of the vehicle and any statements made by the Seller, and satisfy themselves in all aspects prior to purchasing the car from the Seller. The Buyer understands there is no warranty or guarantee offered by either the Seller or AMCS.
If upon inspection the Buyer is not satisfied with the car for any reason and does not wish to proceed with the purchase the owner is advised and any personal details are deleted from AMCS records.
If the Buyer is satisfied with the car and a price is agreed to with the Seller a formal tax invoice is prepared by AMCS and sent to the Buyer for payment to the AMCS audited Trust Account. AMCS also receives a formal Bill of Sale from the owner stating the car is free of encumbrance and noting banking details for the transaction. Once AMCS receives the total payment cleared into its trust account a transfer is then made to the Seller.
AMCS receives a fee of 7.5% (incl. GST) of the sale price for assisting the Seller to sell the vehicle. There is no fee or Buyer's premium charged to the Buyer.
